Why I build for the heart
"I was born with a heart that needed engineering to keep working. Now I want to build the technology that helps the next kid."
I was born with Tetralogy of Fallot, a congenital heart defect where four problems in the heart's structure show up at once. Before I knew anything about engineering, medical technology had already kept me alive. That's not abstract for me, it's the reason I'm here.
Growing up around all of it, the scans, the monitors, the sensors, the surgeries, taught me that medicine is really engineering applied to the most important machine there is. It also showed me where the technology still falls short, and how much room there is to make it better and more human.
So that's where I point my work. Interning at Stanford Medicine on a pediatric cardiac organ-care system and blood-pressure sensors wasn't a résumé line for me, it was personal. Long term, I want to push cardiovascular and medical technology forward and build systems I actually understand, so the people who depend on them can too.
System Overview
Connor Siu, a first-year Biomedical Engineering student at San José State University (2025–2029), out of Mountain House High School's Biomedical Pathway. I run on curiosity and a refusal to treat technology like a black box.
Research intern at Stanford Medicine under Dr. Michael Ma, working on a pediatric cardiac organ-care system and blood-pressure sensor development. First Aid and BLS/CPR certified.
What I'm really after: build systems I understand deeply, across biomedical engineering and AI, and push cardiovascular and medical technology that feels personal, useful, and interactive.

- Assisted in developing a blood-pressure sensor for a cardiovascular organ-care system, focused on translating adult technologies for pediatric cardiac transplant patients.
